Click here for information on what you can do to celebrate Community Healing Days and build the movement for emancipation from the myth of Black inferiority.
On October 17, 18, and 19, 2008, people in Montclair, New Jersey, and Tuskegee, Alabama, joined people in New Haven, Connecticut, in sponsoring movie nights, panel discussions, community healing walks, and religious services focused on healing—making the first annual celebration of Community Healing DaysSM a success.
CHN marked the second annual celebration of Community Healing Days,SM on October 16, 17, and 18, 2009 with observances in New Haven and Bridgeport in Connecticut; Montclair and Newark, New Jersey; Tuskegee, Tuscaloosa, Camden, Auburn, and Gadsden, Alabama; Atlanta, Georgia; Cincinnati and Cleveland, Ohio; Georgetown, South Carolina; Detroit, Michigan; and Portland, Oregon.
Adults and young people watched and discussed the movies Roots, Pride, and Antwone Fisher and talked about the book Up From Slavery and other works that shed light on the myths that keep us from reaching our full potential. People joined together at community healing summits to share their stories. They worshipped together at religious services focused on healing. And they came together for community healing walks and walks for Black self-love.
We invite you to put “time for healing” on your agenda this year. All you need is a commitment to taking the time to heal.
Mark your calendars now to celebrate Community Healing Days, on Friday through Sunday, October 15, 16, and 17, 2010.
